At home
- Say a short word slowly and let your child count the sounds on their fingers: c-a-t is three.
- Hide a letter on a card (c, a, t) and put them in order to build the word together.
- Point at a short word on a box or a sign and read it by its sounds, not by its shape.
- Praise the trying: a word read slowly is a word read.
